Instructions
- 1. Heat a large pan over medium heat and add 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 2. Add 1 lb of halal ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
- 3. Stir in 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp italian seasoning, 1 tsp dried basil, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp coriander, and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
- 4. Add 1 cup of diced tomatoes and 2 cups of tomato sauce to the pan. Stir well to combine and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- 5. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the sauce over cooked ziti pasta and pair with a fresh salad for a complete meal.
