Instructions
- 1. Preheat your grill, grill pan, or frying pan to medium-high heat (about 200°C) and lightly oil the grates or surface.
- 2. In a large bowl, combine the minced beef, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- 3. Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, slightly larger than the buns as they will shrink during cooking.
- 4. Place the patties onto the preheated grill or pan and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 70°C. Add a slice of cheddar cheese to each patty during the last 2 minutes of cooking to melt.
- 5. While the burgers cook, warm the refried beans in a small saucepan over low heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6. Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until golden and crisp.
- 7. Assemble the burgers by spreading a layer of refried beans on the bottom bun, followed by the cheesy burger patty. Top with a generous spoonful of salsa, a dollop of guacamole, and a few tortilla chip crumbles for added crunch.
- 8. Finish with shredded lettuce and place the top bun on. Serve immediately with a side of crispy fries or a fresh green salad.
