Instructions

  1. 1. Cook 225 g of diced bacon in a 6-quart pan over medium heat until browned and crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving 1 to 2 tablespoons of fat in the pan.
  2. 2. Add 1.1 kg of ground beef to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  3. 3. Stir in 2 cups of finely chopped onion, 1 cup of diced green pepper, and 6 minced garlic cloves. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened.
  4. 4. Add 2.7 kg of peeled and chopped tomatoes, 510 g of tomato paste, 1 cup of red wine, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1 bay leaf, and 1/2 cup of chopped fresh parsley and 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning. Stir well to combine.
  5. 5. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavors are well blended. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
  6. 6. Serve the sauce over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
