Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Heat 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add 1 finely chopped onion to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 10 minutes.
  3. 3. Add 500 g of halal ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until well browned, about 10 to 12 minutes.
  4. 4. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour over the beef and onion. Stir well and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. 5. Pour in 1/4 cup of beef stock and add 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary and a pinch of nutmeg. Stir and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. 6. Transfer the beef mixture to a 9-inch square baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. 7. Spoon a mixture of flour and water over the beef mixture, spreading it evenly. Use a fork to create a textured surface on the mixture.
  8. 8. Dot the top of the mixture with 1 tablespoon of butter, cut into small pieces.
  9. 9. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  10. 10. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
