Ingredients
- - Allinson Dried Active Yeast 125g
- 2.27L / 4 Pints British Whole Milk 2.27L / 4 Pints
- 750 G Top-Op Table Salt Drums
- 100G Borwicks Baking Powder, 100G
- 1.5 Kg Matthews Cotswold Organic Plain Flour, 1.5Kg
Instructions
- 1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of plain flour, 1/2 tsp icing sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp baking powder. Whisk to combine.
- 2. In a separate bowl, mix 3/4 cup of warm milk and 1/2 tsp active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth. Cover the bowl and let the batter rest for 1 hour in a warm place until it becomes bubbly.
- 4. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Lightly grease the skillet and place 3-4 crumpet rings on it.
- 5. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into each ring, filling them halfway. Cook for 5-7 minutes until bubbles form on the surface and the edges set.
- 6. Remove the rings, flip the crumpets, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
- 7. Transfer the crumpets to a wire rack to cool slightly. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- 8. Serve warm with spread, jam, or your favorite toppings.
