Ingredients

  • 1 Kg Yellow/White Onion 1kg
  • 200G All Things Butter Unsalted Butter
  • 50G Pepper Black Ground BWFO
  • 1 Piece White Baguette French Baguette
  • - The Cheese Lady Gruyère Reserve Classic Swiss Mountain Cheese
  • 60G Mill & Mortar Organic Salt Of Hearts, 60G

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add 2 thinly sliced sweet onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Season with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  3. 3. While the onions are cooking, lightly butter one side of each of the 4 slices of baguette.
  4. 4. Place the baguette slices, buttered side down, on a baking sheet. Toast them in the preheated oven for 5 minutes or until lightly golden.
  5. 5. Remove the baguette from the oven. Divide the caramelized onions evenly between two slices of toasted baguette, placing them on the unbuttered side.
  6. 6. Top each pile of onions with 2 slices of cheese. Return the bread to the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. 7. Place the remaining slices of toasted baguette on top of the cheese, buttered side up, to form sandwiches.
  8. 8. Serve the sandwiches warm and enjoy your savory sweet onion melt.
