Instructions

  1. 1. Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of asafoetida, 1/2 teaspoon of, and 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme to the melted butter. Stir for 30 seconds to release the aroma.
  3. 3. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour over the butter and herb mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes until the mixture is golden and smooth.
  4. 4. Gradually pour in 4 cups of hot vegetable broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. 5. Turn off the heat and stir in 1 cup of heavy cream until fully incorporated.
  6. 6. Add salt and pepper to taste, adjusting seasoning as needed.
  7. 7. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before storing in the refrigerator if not serving immediately.
