Instructions
- 1. In a large kettle, combine 1 1/2 cups split peas, 2 1/2 liters water, 1/2 teaspoon allspice, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 2. Reduce the heat to low, cover the kettle, and let the mixture simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 3. Add 4 medium carrots (sliced), 1 medium onion (chopped), 1/2 head of cabbage (shredded), and 1 1/2 cups diced smoked turkey to the kettle. Stir well and return to a boil.
- 4. Reduce the heat again to low, cover, and simmer for an additional 30 minutes or until the vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
