Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of quinoa flour, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, and 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds. Mix well to form the dry base for the burger patties.
  3. 3. Finely grate 1 medium carrot and add it to the bowl. Then, finely chop 1 onion and 2 cloves of garlic. Sauté the onion and garlic in 1 tablespoon of cooking oil until softened, then add them to the mixture.
  4. 4. Add 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1 teaspoon of paprika powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the bowl. Mix thoroughly to incorporate the spices.
  5. 5. Add 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce to the mixture for flavor and binding. Stir until the mixture is cohesive and holds together when pressed.
  6. 6. Shape the mixture into burger patties, approximately 1/2 inch thick. Place the patties on the prepared baking tray.
  7. 7. Bake the patties in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and firm.
  8. 8. While the patties are baking, prepare the burger buns. Slice the brioche burger buns in half and lightly toast them in a dry pan or oven.
  9. 9. Wash and dry the romaine lettuce leaves. Tear them into pieces suitable for layering in the burger.
  10. 10. Once the patties are cooked, assemble the burgers. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun, followed by a quinoa patty. Optionally, garnish with freshly chopped coriander for added flavor.
  11. 11. Spread a small amount of hoisin sauce on the top half of the bun and place it over the patty to complete the burger.
  12. 12. Serve the quinoa burgers warm and enjoy!
