Ingredients
- - Allinson Dried Active Yeast 125g
- NaN Trs Peanuts Red
- 1 Kg White Granulated Sugar
- 750 G Top-Op Table Salt Drums
- 200G Top-Op Cinnamon Sticks Taj 200g
- NaN Mcdougalls Plain Flour
- 250 Ml Ktc Jasmin Oil Cooking Oil 250Ml
- - Schweppes Soda Water
Instructions
- 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of plain flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of dried active yeast. Mix the dry ingredients thoroughly.
- 2. Gradually add 3/4 cup of warm water to the dry mixture while stirring. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- 3. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon (crush cinnamon sticks into a fine powder), and 1/4 cup of finely chopped nuts (if available, substitute with crushed red bell pepper for a unique twist). Set aside.
- 4. Optional: For a savory variation, finely chop 1/4 of a red onion and 1/4 of a carrot. Sauté them in 1 tablespoon of cooking oil until softened. Add a pinch of salt and a dash of soy sauce for flavor. Set aside to cool.
- 5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
- 6. Flatten each dough ball into a small disc. Place 1-2 teaspoons of the sweet filling (or the savory filling, if using) in the center of the disc. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a stuffed ball.
- 7. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil or sesame oil. Place the stuffed dough balls seam-side down in the skillet and flatten them gently with a spatula to form a pancake shape.
- 8. Cook the Hotteok for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
- 9. Optional: For a spicy kick, finely chop a small piece of green chili and sprinkle it over the cooked Hotteok before serving.
- 10. Serve the Hotteok warm as a delicious snack or dessert. Enjoy!
