Instructions

  1. 1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Sauté 3 diced onions, 4 minced garlic cloves, and 1/2 diced green pepper until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. 2. In a separate pan, brown 1 1/2 lb of kosher ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  3. 3. Combine the sautéed vegetables and browned ground beef in a large pot or kettle.
  4. 4. Add 2 cups of tomato puree, 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 cup of water to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  5. 5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6. Allow the sauce to cool and refrigerate overnight to enhance the flavors.
  7. 7. Before serving, add 1 cup of sliced shiitake mushrooms and 1 cup of shredded cooked kosher chicken to the pot. Simmer for an additional 30 minutes over low heat.
  8. 8. Serve the sauce hot over your favorite pasta or spaghetti, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
