Ingredients

  • - Asafoetida Bwfo Free Uk Mainland P&P
  • - Natco Black Mustard Seeds
  • - Rajah Whole Red Chillies
  • 500 G Fresh Vine Tomato 500g
  • 200G Mtr Sambhar Powder 200g
  • 750 G Top-Op Table Salt Drums

Instructions

  1. 1. Wash 1 cup of TRS Lentils Red (Masoor Dal) thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the lentils in water for 15-20 minutes.
  2. 2. In a large pot, add the soaked lentils along with 3 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils are soft and cooked through (approximately 20-25 minutes). Skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
  3. 3. While the lentils are cooking, prepare the vegetables. Wash and chop the Fresh Vine Tomatoes (500g) into small pieces. If using Drumstick Moringa Leaves, rinse them thoroughly and set aside.
  4. 4. Heat 2 tablespoons of Crisp N Dry Oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add 1 teaspoon of Natco Black Mustard Seeds and let them splutter.
  5. 5. Add a pinch of Asafoetida Bwfo Free Uk Mainland P&P and 2-3 Rajah Whole Red Chillies to the pan. Stir for a few seconds until aromatic.
  6. 6. Add the chopped Fresh Vine Tomatoes to the pan and cook until they soften, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. 7. Stir in 1 tablespoon of Saras Turmeric Haldi Powder and 2 tablespoons of MTR Sambhar Powder (200g). Mix well to coat the tomatoes with the spices.
  8. 8. Add the cooked lentils to the pan along with 2 cups of water. Stir well to combine.
  9. 9. Add 2 tablespoons of Shan Tamarind Chutney (315g) for tanginess and a small piece (about 1 tablespoon) of Kitul Jaggery Slab (500g) for sweetness. Stir until the jaggery dissolves completely.
  10. 10. If using Drumstick Moringa Leaves, add them to the sambhar at this stage. Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  11. 11. Season the sambhar with Top-Op Table Salt Drums to taste. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
  12. 12. Serve the sambhar hot with steamed rice or as a side dish. Optionally, serve with Ashoka Carrot Pickle (500g) as an accompaniment.
