Instructions
- 1. Rinse the black dhal, black lentils, and cereals & lentils mix thoroughly under running water. Soak them overnight in water. Drain and set aside.
- 2. In a dry pan, roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon sticks, and garam masala until aromatic. Allow them to cool, then grind into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
- 3. Heat cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle. Then add the curry leaves, whole dried red chillies, minced garlic paste, and ground ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- 4. Add the ground spice mix from Step 2, Kashmiri chilli powder, crushed red chillies, and black pepper powder to the pot. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes to release the flavors.
- 5. Add the soaked and drained black dhal, black lentils, and cereals & lentils mix to the pot. Pour in enough water to cover the mixture. Season with salt and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the lentils and beans are tender.
- 6. Once the lentils and beans are cooked, add the desiccated coconut and stir well. Allow the flavors to blend by simmering for an additional 5 minutes.
- 7. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the misal and mix gently.
- 8. Serve the hot misal in bowls, garnished with chopped coriander leaves. Pair with pav buns on the side for a complete Misal Pav experience. Enjoy!
