Jain-Style Indian Fry Bread recipe

About this recipe

This crispy and golden fry bread is a perfect Jain-friendly dinner option. Made without root vegetables, it pairs wonderfully with chutneys or as a standalone snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg Caputo Cuor Di Cerali, 1Kg
  • 6 X 1 L Candia Just Milk Semi Skimmed
  • - Tata Salt
  • 113G Royal Baking Powder Tin, 113G
  • - Ktc Vegetable Oil
  • - Mccormick Cumin Powder

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 3 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of cumin powder.
  2. 2. Gradually add 1 cup of milk and stir until the mixture forms a stiff dough.
  3. 3. Transfer the dough onto a well-floured surface and pat it down to about 1/2-inch thickness using your hands.
  4. 4. Cut the dough into strips or squares, making a small slit in the middle of each piece.
  5. 5. Heat enough oil in a deep pan for frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the dough pieces into the oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, flipping as needed.
  6. 6. Remove the fry bread from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite Jain-friendly accompaniments.
