Instructions
- 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, za'atar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the spices are evenly distributed.
- 2. Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes. Add the spiced ground beef to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked.
- 3. While the beef cooks, prepare the yogurt sauce by mixing the plain yogurt, lemon juice, and minced garlic in a small bowl. Add a pinch of salt and stir until smooth. Set aside.
- 4. Warm the pita breads in a dry skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes on each side or until soft and pliable. Alternatively, wrap them in foil and warm in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes.
- 5. To assemble, spread a generous layer of the yogurt sauce inside each warmed pita. Add a handful of shredded lettuce and a few slices of tomatoes and cucumbers.
- 6. Spoon the cooked za'atar beef into the pita, ensuring an even distribution. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and crumbled feta cheese for added flavor.
- 7. Serve immediately with a side of pickled vegetables or a simple salad, if desired. Enjoy the fresh, bold flavors of the Middle East!
