Ingredients

  • 1 kg Basmati Rice
  • 100 Ml Govind Ghee
  • 500 g Jaggery
  • - Green Cardamom Powder
  • 50 g Nutmeg Powder
  • 100 G Coconut Powder

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse 1 cup of rice and soak it in water for 4-5 hours. Drain the water and grind the rice into a fine paste using a blender. Add water as needed to achieve a smooth consistency.
  2. 2. Heat a non-stick pan and add 1 cup of the rice paste. Cook on medium flame, stirring continuously, until it thickens into a dough-like consistency. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. 3. In another pan, heat 1 tbsp of ghee. Add 1/2 cup of grated coconut and roast for 2-3 minutes. Add 1/4 cup of jaggery, 1/4 tsp cardamom powder, and a pinch of nutmeg powder. Mix well and cook until the jaggery melts and the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  4. 4. Grease your hands with ghee and take a small portion of the rice dough. Flatten it into a small disc and place a teaspoon of the coconut-jaggery filling in the center.
  5. 5. Carefully gather the edges of the rice dough and shape it into a modak, pinching the top to form a peak. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  6. 6. Steam the modaks in a steamer for 10-12 minutes until they are cooked through and firm.
  7. 7. Remove the modaks from the steamer and let them cool slightly. Serve warm as a traditional sweet offering or dessert.
