Instructions

  1. 1. Wash the lentils thoroughly and boil them in a pot until soft, about 15-20 minutes. Drain excess water and set aside.
  2. 2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.
  3. 3. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Stir in the green chilies, turmeric powder, garam masala, and red chili powder, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  4. 4. Add the chopped tomato and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Mix in the boiled lentils, salt, and coriander leaves, cooking for another 3-5 minutes. Set the filling aside.
  5. 5. Heat a flat, non-stick pan and grease it lightly with oil. Pour a ladle of dosa batter onto the pan and spread it thinly in a circular motion.
  6. 6. Cook the dosa on medium heat until the edges start to lift and the surface is golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for another minute if desired.
  7. 7. Place a portion of the lentil filling in the center of the dosa, fold it over, and lightly press to secure.
  8. 8. Prepare the coconut chutney by blending grated coconut, yogurt (optional), and a pinch of salt. Adjust consistency with water if needed.
  9. 9. Serve the Hyderabadi Spiced Lentil Dosa hot with coconut chutney on the side.
