Ingredients

  • 1 kg Yellow Moong Dal
  • 200 ml Coconut Milk
  • 200 ml Ghee
  • - Dry Red Chillies
  • 100 g Curry Leaves
  • medium Chilli Green Long
  • 50 g Asafoetida Powder
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • - Coriander Powder
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Salt
  • 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the yellow lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 20 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. 2. In a medium saucepan, add the lentils, turmeric powder, and 300ml of water. Cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes until the lentils are soft and fully cooked.
  3. 3. Heat ghee in a separate pan on medium heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, curry leaves, and green chili. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until aromatic.
  4. 4. Add the chopped tomato to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the coriander powder and salt.
  5. 5. Pour the cooked lentils into the pan along with the coconut milk. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. 6. Garnish the lentil dish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with idlis, dosas, or as a standalone dish.
