Ingredients

  • 500 g Moong Dal
  • 1 kg Rice
  • medium Chilli Green Long
  • 250g Ginger
  • 500 g Onion
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • 50 g Black Pepper Powder
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Salt
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the green gram and raw rice thoroughly under cold water, then soak them in water for 6-8 hours or overnight.
  2. 2. Drain the soaked green gram and rice, then transfer them to a blender along with green chili, ginger, cumin seeds, pepper powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Blend into a smooth batter, adding water gradually to achieve a pouring consistency.
  3. 3. Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Once hot, lightly grease it with oil and pour a ladleful of the batter onto the center of the skillet. Spread it into a thin circle using the back of the ladle.
  4. 4. Sprinkle finely chopped onions and coriander leaves over the batter, pressing them gently into the surface of the crepe.
  5. 5. Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges of the crepe and cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and crisp. Flip the crepe and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  6. 6. Remove the cooked pesarattu from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining batter. Serve warm with coconut chutney or a tangy tomato relish.
