Ingredients

  • 1 kg Yellow Moong Dal
  • 500 g Onion
  • 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
  • 300 g Ginger Paste
  • 200 g Dahi
  • 100G Oleo
  • 50 g Black Pepper Powder
  • 500 g Capsicum Green
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • 50G Green Chilies
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Red Chili Powder
  • 100 g Salt
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under running water and soak it in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
  2. 2. Drain the soaked dal and blend it into a smooth batter with yogurt, cumin seeds, green chilies, ginger paste, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
  3. 3. Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with a few drops of oil.
  4. 4. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the skillet and spread it gently into a round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. 5. Sprinkle the chopped onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and coriander leaves over the top of the batter. Press them down slightly into the batter using a spatula.
  6. 6. Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges of the uttapam and cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom turns golden brown.
  7. 7. Flip the uttapam carefully and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are slightly cooked and the uttapam is fully done.
  8. 8. Repeat the process with the remaining batter and vegetables, greasing the skillet as needed.
