Fish Ambotik with Rice is a classic Goan dish known for its tangy and spicy flavors. Fresh fish is simmered in a robust curry infused with tamarind, red chilies, and Goan spices, perfectly paired with steamed rice for a hearty family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 Kg R.C. Fish
- - Dry Red Chillies
- 100 g Garlic
- loose Ginger
- 100 g Tamarind Paste
- 500 g Onion
- 1 kg Rice
- 100 g Dhaniya Gavran Premium
- 200 ml Mustard Oil
- 100 g Salt
- 100 g Jeera
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
Instructions
- 1. Wash the fish thoroughly under running water and pat dry. Cut into medium-sized pieces, rub with 1/2 tsp salt and set aside.
- 2. Prepare the Ambotik masala: In a blender, add 8 dried red chilies, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 6 garlic cloves, 1-inch piece of ginger, and 1/4 cup tamarind pulp. Blend into a smooth paste using 1/4 cup water.
- 3. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a deep pan or wok on medium heat. Add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- 4. Add the prepared Ambotik masala to the pan and sauté for 3-4 minutes until fragrant and the oil starts to separate.
- 5. Add 2 cups water to the pan and bring the curry to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- 6. Gently add the fish pieces to the curry. Cover and cook for 8 minutes on low heat until the fish is tender and infused with the curry flavor.
- 7. For the rice, rinse 1.5 cups of rice under running water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice with 3 cups of water and a pinch of salt in a covered pot on medium heat for 12 minutes until fluffy.
- 8. Serve the Fish Ambotik hot with freshly steamed rice for a satisfying meal.
