Ingredients

  • - Toned Milk
  • 500g Dried Anjeer
  • 100 Ml Gowardhan Ghee
  • 500 g Sugar
  • Loose Cardamom

Instructions

  1. 1. Gather all ingredients: 1 cup dried figs (chopped), 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup ghee, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder, and 10-12 chopped almonds (optional).
  2. 2. Wash the dried figs thoroughly under running water to remove any impurities. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  3. 3. Chop the dried figs into small, even pieces using a sharp knife. Set aside.
  4. 4. Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai on medium flame. Add the ghee and let it melt completely.
  5. 5. Once the ghee is hot, add the chopped figs to the pan. Sauté them for 3-4 minutes until they soften slightly.
  6. 6. Add the sugar to the pan and mix well with the figs. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sugar dissolves.
  7. 7. Pour in the milk and water, stirring continuously to combine all the ingredients. Lower the flame to simmer.
  8. 8. Cook the mixture on low flame, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
  9. 9. Add the cardamom powder and mix well to incorporate it into the halwa. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  10. 10. Turn off the flame and let the halwa cool slightly. It will thicken further as it cools.
  11. 11. Garnish the halwa with chopped almonds if desired.
  12. 12. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your Jain-style decadent fig halwa!
