Chicken Pathia is a tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet curry that originates from Indian Parsi cuisine. Served with fragrant basmati rice, this dish is a perfect balance of flavors that will delight your taste buds and make for a memorable family dinner.
Ingredients
- 100 g Coriander Leaves
- 500 g Chicken Whole
- 500 g Onion
- loose Ginger
- medium Chilli Green Long
- 100 g Tamarind Paste
- 500 g Jaggery Powder
- 1 kg Basmati Rice
- 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
- - Red Chilli Powder
- 100 g Salt
- 1 liter Sunflower Oil
- 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds
- - Garlic Paste
- 100 g Jeera Powder
- - Coriander Powder
- 50 Grms Garam Masala Handmade Spices 50 Grms
Instructions
- 1. Marinate the chicken with turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
- 2. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add the finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- 3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the onions. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 4. Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, and garam masala. Cook the spices for 1 minute to release their aroma.
- 5. Add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies to the pan. Cook until the tomatoes break down and form a thick paste, stirring occasionally.
- 6. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and mix well to coat the chicken in the spice mixture. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 7. Pour in the tamarind paste, jaggery (or sugar), and 200 ml of water. Stir well, cover the pan, and let the chicken simmer until fully cooked and the sauce thickens.
- 8. While the chicken is simmering, wash the basmati rice thoroughly and boil it in water with a pinch of salt. Cook until tender and fluffy, then drain and keep warm.
- 9. Adjust seasoning in the chicken curry with salt as needed. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
- 10. Serve the Chicken Pathia hot with steamed basmati rice on the side. Enjoy your meal!
