These crispy and flavorful fried bean cakes are made with black-eyed peas and seasoned with onion and spices. Perfect as a vegan dinner entree or a satisfying snack.
Ingredients
- 1 pack (500 g) Jairaj Black Eye Chawli
- 100 g Sambar Onion Peeled
- 1 kg Tata Salt (Vacuum Evaporated Iodised)
- 1 pack (100 g) Tata Sampann Pure Black Pepper Powder
- 850 g Oleev Smart Vitafit Edibale Vegetable Oil
Instructions
- 1. Soak 6 oz of black-eyed peas in cold water for a few minutes.
- 2. Dehusk the black-eyed peas by pulsing them in a blender for a few seconds.
- 3. Transfer the peas to a large bowl, add water, and drain to remove husks. Repeat this process several times until the husks are completely removed.
- 4. Blend the dehusked peas until very fine, ensuring the mixture is thick and smooth.
- 5. Finely chop 1 onion and add it to the blended peas.
- 6. Add 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp black pepper to the mixture. Mix thoroughly to combine.
- 7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- 8. Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the mixture into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, flipping occasionally for even cooking.
- 9. Remove the fried cakes from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 10. Serve the Akara cakes warm as a dinner entree or enjoy them as a snack.
