Ingredients
- 500 g Toor Dal
- 1 kg Rice
- 500 g Onion
- - Tomato Ketchup
- 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
- - Cumin Seeds / Jeera Seeds-250 Gms
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
- 100 g Salt
- 200 ml Mustard Oil
- 1 kg Water Chestnuts
- - Coriander Powder
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the toor dal and rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
- 2. Dice the onion and tomato into small pieces and set them aside for cooking.
- 3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, letting them sizzle for a few seconds.
- 4. Add the diced onion to the cooker and sauté until it turns translucent, about 3 minutes.
- 5. Mix in the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, and red chili powder, cooking until the tomato softens.
- 6. Add the rinsed toor dal and rice to the cooker, stirring to coat them with the spices.
- 7. Pour in the water and season with salt, mixing well to combine all ingredients.
- 8. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on medium heat for 3 whistles, then turn off the heat.
- 9. Allow the pressure to release naturally before opening the cooker lid.
- 10. Stir the khichdi gently and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves before serving.
