Tangy Masoor Dal Khichdi recipe

Ingredients

  • - MASOOR DAL
  • - Baby Tomatoes
  • 500 g Onion
  • 100 g Garlic
  • loose Ginger
  • - Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 kg Rice
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • - Cumin Seeds 100g
  • 100 g Salt
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • - Coriander Powder
  • 1 kg Water Chestnuts

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the masoor dal and rice thoroughly under running water and set them aside.
  2. 2. Chop the tomatoes, onions, green chilies, garlic, and ginger into small pieces.
  3. 3. Heat oil in a large pot and add cumin seeds; let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. 4. Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger, and sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  5. 5. Stir in the chopped green chilies, turmeric powder, and coriander powder; cook for 1 minute.
  6. 6. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and release their juices, about 5 minutes.
  7. 7. Add the rinsed masoor dal and rice to the pot, stirring well to coat them with the spices.
  8. 8. Pour in the water and add salt; stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  9. 9. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
  10. 10. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the dal and rice are fully cooked.
  11. 11. Turn off the heat and let the khichdi rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  12. 12. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
