Ingredients

  • 100 g Curry Leaves
  • - Green Peas
  • - Tomato Ketchup
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
  • - Foxtail Millet Flour
  • 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds
  • - Cumin Seeds 100g
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • 100 g Salt
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • 1 kg Water Chestnuts

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the foxtail millet thoroughly and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
  2. 2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds; let them splutter.
  3. 3. Add cumin seeds, chopped green chili, and curry leaves, stirring for 30 seconds.
  4. 4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften, around 5 minutes.
  5. 5. Stir in turmeric powder and salt, mixing well with the tomato base.
  6. 6. Drain the millet and add it to the pan, stirring to coat evenly with spices.
  7. 7. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  8. 8. Add green peas and reduce the flame to low, covering the pan to let the millet cook.
  9. 9. Cook until the millet absorbs the water and becomes fluffy, around 12-15 minutes.
  10. 10. Fluff the upma with a fork and serve hot, garnished with extra curry leaves if desired.
