Ingredients

  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • - MASOOR DAL
  • 1 kg Rice
  • 500 g Onion
  • - Tomato Ketchup
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • loose Ginger
  • 100 g Garlic
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • - Cumin Seeds / Jeera Seeds-250 Gms
  • 100 g Salt
  • 1 ltr Pansari Tilsari Edible Vegetable Oil
  • 1 kg Water Chestnuts

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the masoor dal and rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
  2. 2. Finely chop the onion, tomato, green chili, ginger, and garlic, keeping them ready for cooking.
  3. 3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan and add cumin seeds; let them sizzle for 30 seconds.
  4. 4. Add chopped onion to the pan and sauté until golden brown, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
  5. 5. Stir in the ginger, garlic, and green chili, cooking for about 1 minute until aromatic.
  6. 6. Add chopped tomato and turmeric powder, cooking until the tomato softens and forms a paste-like consistency.
  7. 7. Mix in the rinsed masoor dal and rice, stirring well to coat them with the spice mixture.
  8. 8. Pour in the water and add salt, stirring to combine, then bring to a boil over medium heat.
  9. 9. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and allow the khichdi to simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  10. 10. Check if the dal and rice are cooked and the consistency is creamy; adjust water if needed.
  11. 11. Turn off the heat and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves before serving.
