Ingredients

  • 80 g Soya Chunks
  • 1 pc (approx. 500 g to 800 g) Cabbage
  • 500 g Onion
  • 100 g Garlic
  • loose Ginger
  • 90 g Dark Soy Sauce
  • 500 g Brown Sugar
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • 1 kg Water Chestnuts
  • 100 g Salt
  • 1 l Soyabean Oil

Instructions

  1. 1. Soak the soy chunks in hot water for 10 minutes until softened.
  2. 2. Peel and julienne the carrots; shred the cabbage and slice the onion thinly.
  3. 3. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, water, grated garlic, and ginger to prepare the teriyaki sauce.
  4. 4. Heat vegetable oil in a pan and sauté onions until translucent and fragrant.
  5. 5. Add the carrots and cabbage to the pan and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat until slightly tender.
  6. 6. Drain the soaked soy chunks, squeeze out excess water, and add them to the pan with the vegetables.
  7. 7. Pour the prepared teriyaki sauce into the pan and stir well to coat the soy chunks and vegetables evenly.
  8. 8. Cook for another 5–7 minutes on low heat until the sauce thickens and everything is well glazed.
  9. 9. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding a pinch of salt or more soy sauce.
  10. 10. Serve hot in bowls, garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired.
