Ingredients

  • 500 g Moong Dal
  • - Baby Tomatoes
  • - Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 kg Rice
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • - Cumin Seeds 100g
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • 100 g Salt
  • 1 kg Water Chestnuts
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil

Instructions

  1. 1. Wash the moong dal and rice thoroughly under running water and soak them for 20 minutes.
  2. 2. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces and finely slice the green chili.
  3. 3. Heat oil in a deep pan and add cumin seeds, letting them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. 4. Add chopped tomatoes and green chili to the pan, cooking for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  5. 5. Stir in turmeric powder and salt, mixing well with the tomato base.
  6. 6. Drain the soaked dal and rice, then add them to the pan, stirring to combine with the spices.
  7. 7. Pour in water and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  8. 8. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes until the dal and rice are cooked through.
  9. 9. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, ensuring the khichdi reaches a creamy consistency.
  10. 10. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves before serving warm.
