About this recipe
This is a traditional Odia dish prepared with fish and a flavorful mustard-based gravy, adapted to be keto-friendly by avoiding starchy ingredients and using moderate spices.
Ingredients
- 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
- - Red Chilli
- 250g Green Chilli
- 200 ml Mustard Oil
- 500 ml Water
- 10G Salt
- 250g Coriander
Instructions
- Step 1: Soak 20 g of yellow mustard seeds in a small bowl of water for 15 minutes. Drain the water and grind the mustard seeds with 4 garlic cloves and 2 green chilies into a smooth paste using a grinder. Set this aside.
- Step 2: Heat 2 tablespoons of mustard oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat for 2 minutes until the oil starts to shimmer. Add the cleaned rohu fish pieces and lightly sear them for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden. Remove the fish and set aside.
- Step 3: In the same pan, add the mustard paste and cook over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring continuously to ensure it doesn’t stick. Add 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, and 1 tsp salt, then stir for another minute to combine the spices evenly.
- Step 4: Pour 200 ml of water into the pan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low and carefully add the seared fish pieces into the gravy. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 10 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the flavors meld together.
- Step 5: Turn off the heat, sprinkle 10 g of freshly chopped cilantro over the curry, and let it rest for 2 minutes. Serve warm with a side of cucumber slices or a keto-friendly salad.
