Ingredients
- 1 kg Yellow Moong Dal
- - Baby Tomatoes
- 200 ml Coconut Milk
- 250g Green Chilli
- - Tomato Ketchup
- - Foxtail Millet Flour
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
- - Cumin Seeds 100g
- - Coriander Powder
- 100 g Salt
- 200 ml Mustard Oil
- 1 kg Water Chestnuts
- 100 g Coriander Bunch (Dhaniya Patta)
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the foxtail millet and moong dal separately under running water and soak them for 15 minutes.
- 2. Heat oil in a deep pan and add the cumin seeds, allowing them to splutter for 30 seconds.
- 3. Finely chop the green chilies and sauté them in the pan along with the turmeric powder and coriander powder for 1 minute.
- 4. Blend the fresh tomatoes into a smooth puree and add it to the pan, cooking for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- 5. Drain the soaked moong dal and add it to the pan, stirring to coat it in the spices and tomato puree.
- 6. Pour in 300 ml of water and bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- 7. Add the foxtail millet to the pan and mix well, pouring in an additional 200 ml of water if needed.
- 8. Cover the pan and let the millet and dal cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 9. Once the millet and dal are tender, stir in the coconut milk and adjust the salt to your taste.
- 10. Garnish the dish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve warm.
