Ingredients

  • 500 g Urad Dal
  • 1 kg Rice
  • 250 g Spinach
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Salt
  • 1pc Watermelon

Instructions

  1. 1. Wash and soak the urad dal and rice separately in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
  2. 2. Blend the soaked dal and rice into a smooth batter using water, ensuring the consistency is medium thick.
  3. 3. Add salt to the batter and let it ferment at room temperature for 8 hours or until it becomes slightly airy.
  4. 4. Finely chop the spinach, onions, and green chilies, keeping them ready for topping.
  5. 5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
  6. 6. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the skillet, spreading it gently to form a small pancake-like shape.
  7. 7. Sprinkle chopped spinach, onions, green chilies, and cumin seeds evenly on top of the batter.
  8. 8. Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges and cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  9. 9. Flip the uttapam carefully and cook the other side for another 2 minutes until cooked through.
  10. 10. Remove the uttapam from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  11. 11. Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato chutney for an authentic flavor.
