Ingredients

  • 1 kg Yellow Moong Dal
  • 1 kg Rice
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • - Red Chilli
  • loose Ginger
  • 100 g Garlic
  • 500 g Onion
  • - Tomato Ketchup
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • 100 g Salt
  • 1pc Watermelon
  • - Bay Leaf
  • 250g Green Chilli

Instructions

  1. 1. Wash and soak the moong dal in water for 15 minutes while preparing other ingredients.
  2. 2. Rinse the spinach leaves thoroughly, chop them finely, and set aside.
  3. 3. Heat mustard oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, bay leaf, and sauté until aromatic.
  4. 4. Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger; cook until onions turn golden brown.
  5. 5. Stir in chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt; cook until tomatoes soften.
  6. 6. Add the soaked moong dal and water; bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
  7. 7. Mix in the chopped spinach and green chilies; cook for another 5 minutes until spinach wilts.
  8. 8. While the dal is simmering, cook rice with cumin seeds and a pinch of salt in boiling water until tender.
  9. 9. Drain the cooked rice, fluff it with a fork, and set it aside for serving.
  10. 10. Adjust the consistency of the dal by adding water if required; check seasoning and adjust if needed.
