Ingredients
- 100 g Sambar Onion Peeled
- 1 pack (1 kg) 921 Everyday Long Grain Rice
- 100 g Catch Sprinklers - Iodized Table Salt
- 100 g Jk Jeera Powder / Cumin Powder
- 1 ltr Oreal Canola Oil (From The House Of Pansari)
Instructions
- 1. Soak 1/2 cup of white rice in warm water and set aside.
- 2. Skip this step as it references rinsing lentils, which are not available.
- 3. Finely dice 1 medium onion.
- 4. Heat 3 tablespoons of canola oil in a medium non-stick pot over low heat. Add the diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent, about 15 minutes.
- 5. Add 2 cups of water to the pot with the onions. Stir to combine.
- 6. Add 5 cups of water to the pot and increase the heat to medium. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- 7. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- 8. Add 2 teaspoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of ground cumin to the pot. Stir the mixture thoroughly.
- 9. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the mixture simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. The goal is to achieve a porridge-like consistency.
- 10. Once the porridge has thickened, remove the pot from the heat and transfer the mixture to a serving dish.
- 11. Allow the porridge to set for 10 minutes before serving. It can be enjoyed warm or cold, optionally paired with a green cabbage salad or turnip pickles.
