Ingredients

  • 250 G Masur Dal
  • 200 ml Coconut Milk
  • 500 g Tomato - Hybrid
  • medium Chilli Green Long
  • 50 g Asafoetida Powder
  • 100G Oleo
  • 1 kg Basmati Rice
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • 100 g Curry Leaves
  • 50g Everest Garam Masala
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Salt
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds

Instructions

  1. 1. Rinse the red lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, rinse and cook the basmati rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  2. 2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan on medium heat. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida. Once the seeds splutter, add curry leaves and chopped green chili, stirring for a minute.
  3. 3. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and release oil, about 5-7 minutes. Add turmeric powder and garam masala, stirring to combine.
  4. 4. Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pan. Stir well to coat the lentils with the spice mixture, then pour in 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  5. 5. Lower the heat, cover the pan, and simmer the lentils for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender.
  6. 6. Add coconut milk and salt to the cooked lentils, mixing thoroughly. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  7. 7. Garnish the lentil masala with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot over a bed of steamed basmati rice.
