A classic Bengali fish curry cooked in mustard sauce and served with fragrant steamed rice. Perfectly balanced flavors for a light, satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
- 100 g Yellow Mustard Seeds
- 250 Gms Poppy Seeds
- 500 ml Water
- 250g Green Chilli
- 20 g Turmeric Powder
- 10G Salt
- 200 ml Mustard Oil
- 250g Coriander
- 1 kg Basmati Rice
Instructions
- Step 1: Rub the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
- Step 2: Heat mustard oil in a pan until smoking. Fry the fish pieces until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.
- Step 3: In the same pan, lower the heat and add the mustard paste, poppy seed paste, and green chilies. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Step 4: Add 150 ml of water to create a light curry. Bring to a boil.
- Step 5: Gently place the fried fish pieces into the curry. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Step 6: Meanwhile, prepare steamed rice. Cook Basmati rice with 300 ml of water until fluffy.
- Step 7: Garnish the curry with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
