Ingredients

  • 1 Kg Hilsa Fish
  • - Mustard Seeds
  • 250 Gms Poppy Seeds
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder
  • 10G Salt
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Grind the soaked mustard seeds and poppy seeds together into a smooth paste, adding a small amount of water as needed.
  2. Step 2: Rub the Hilsa fish steaks with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts smoking. Reduce the heat and gently add the fish steaks. Fry lightly on both sides for about 1 minute each and remove from the pan.
  4. Step 4: In the same pan, add the mustard-poppy seed paste, slit green chilies, and a little water to create a sauce. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.
  5. Step 5: Gently place the fried fish steaks into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, allowing the fish to absorb the flavors.
  6. Step 6: Adjust the salt if needed and serve hot with steamed rice.
