Ingredients

  • 1 kg Yellow Moong Dal
  • 250g Green Chilli
  • loose Ginger
  • 200 ml Mustard Oil
  • 1 bunch Spring Onion
  • 100 g Coriander Leaves
  • 100 g Jeera
  • 100 g Red Chili Powder
  • 100 g Salt
  • 20 g Turmeric Powder

Instructions

  1. 1. Drain the soaked moong dal and blend it into a smooth batter using minimal water for a thick consistency.
  2. 2. Transfer the batter to a bowl and mix in turmeric powder, cumin seeds, green chili, grated ginger, chopped coriander leaves, chopped onion, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. 3. Heat a non-stick pan on medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
  4. 4. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread it into a thin, round pancake using the back of the ladle.
  5. 5. Cook the chilla on medium heat for 2-3 minutes until the edges start to lift, then flip it and cook the other side for another 2 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. 6. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, greasing the pan as needed between chillas.
  7. 7. Serve the turmeric spiced moong dal chillas hot with mint chutney or plain yogurt for a balanced breakfast.
